About Me

As a child, my profound interest in nutrition and health developed after a serious battle with anorexia at the age of 11. During recovery, my experience set me on a straight path towards learning everything I could about health and wellness. I was intrigued by the complex, yet perfectly functional relationships that existed in the human body. Through weight lifting and exercise I learned to value human strength and kinetics, and from that derived a greater sense of self-esteem, and body image awareness.

I spent my undergraduate career at Cornell University, studying dietetics, exercise physiology, and psychology. While attending college, I was employed at a local fitness center (working both independently and commercially) as a personal trainer, nutrition consultant, and aerobics instructor. At the same time, my personal health and fitness efforts involved competing as power-lifter and tri-athlete, for which I hold many competitive records in New York State.

As a post-graduate, I went on to a dietetic internship at Keene State College in New Hampshire and pursued graduate studies in the education field. Upon completion of my post graduate work, I moved to Virginia and began my clinical career at The University of Virginia Medical Center. Later, while I served as the nutritionist for the UVA athletes, I fulfilled my deep interest in sports nutrition and the female athlete triad. At the same time, my private practice in nutrition counseling and personal training grew; my specialty in eating disorders & weight management was in high demand in the local region.

My current practice, continues to be focused on eating disorders, sports nutrition, and weight management, however cardiac health, diabetes, pre/post-partum, and mid-life nutrition have also become a significant part of my work. I not only serve the local community, but also work nationwide & internationally with private clients and corporate facilities.  In addition to private consults & training, I offer wellness and body image workshops, support groups, and corporate seminars.  I've been featured in Charlottesville's "Daily Progress" for my work in helping a client lose 100 pounds to surprise her soldier in Iraq.  I have also been featured in "People" Magazine, "Alternative Medicine" Magazine, and on local television and radio promoting health and wellness.  I reside in Charlottesville, VA with my husband and daughter.
